Mars Express: Erstes Bild vom Mars

Die europäische Mars Express-Sonde hat am 1. Dezember mit ihrer High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) die erste Testaufnahme vom Mars gemacht. Das Bild wurde am Institut für Planetenforschung DLR und der freien Universität Berlin bearbeitet. Zum Zeitpunkt der Aufnahme war die Sonde 5,5 Millionen Kilometer vom Mars entfernt. Weil die Sonde zur Zeit der Aufnahme fast in der Bahnebene des Mars lag, erscheint etwa ein Drittel des Planeten unbeleuchtet - eine von der Erde aus unmögliche Perspektive.
